I received an interesting call from an individual who is fairly close to me a few days back that inspired this blogpost. The individual called me to try and vent and invite me over to the "Pity Party" this person had been throwing for themselves all that day. Any one who knows me will tell you that I'm not a "Pity Party" person and I aggressively try and avoid the dreaded "Pity Party!" These "parties" are the worst because you usually don't get a heads up from the person that is dragging you into the "Pity Party." You take a sip of that Hennessy or Pink Moscato, and when you glance @ your surroundings, you realize you have been had. There is no get together! It's just you and this friend or relative sitting on a couch or at a table at a restaurant and the conversation goes a little something like this:
Me: So.. I thought you said the whole crew was coming out?
Individual: Oh yeah, I said the crew may show up. You know how the team is. So what's new with you?
Me: Working, you know how it goes. What's new your way?
Individual: Well, you know.. Life is just tough.. I've been out of school for a few years now. The game is tough.
Me: Well, what's tough about it? I mean all this shit is hard. What you talking bout?
Individual: I mean I'm getting older... I'm trying.. I'm trying to figure out where I wanna be. I'm in my field, but not where I want to be. Nonetheless I'm in my field. And to make progress I would have to do more school and loans. Then jump through these other hoops to climb the ladder. I mean I did everything they told me. I finished school. And it's not going like they laid it out to be.
Me: So what's the problem?
Individual: I mean it's just so difficult. Hard to stay motivated.
Me: It's difficult??? LOL. That's not difficult. Difficult is having kids as teenagers. Difficult is cooking Ramen Noodles in a coffee pot cause you have a free hotel room but like $3 in your account. Difficult is waking up at 4am to work at a plant or factory in the cold. Getting fired from a job a couple days before Christmas is difficult. Your situation is not difficult. You just decided to throw a "Pity Party" for yourself today. We're going to end this one a little early.....
This scenario or something similar happens to us all too often where we get down on ourselves and border depression, anxiety, or any other disorder in that family. With May being mental health month I thought this would make a great topic. The constant competition that social media fuels has many Americans feeling like they just can't keep up with our ever changing society. Lack of material possessions leads the list of issues that cause depression or anxiety. Everybody wants what everybody else has. Now you are not just keeping up with the Joneses, but with anybody you follow on your favorite social media platforms. This world teaches you that it is never enough. You always have to have what's new just because it's new. You have to be a boss or live like a boss. Everybody can't be a boss because as my co-author Koffee Black has stated "Who the hell is working then?"
So take this into consideration. Where ever you are in your life currently is due to your best thinking. The logic behind it is, every decision you made up to this point, is a result of you attempting to put yourself in the best position possible at all times in life. Now as you digest that information, some of you are going to embrace that statement, while others will cringe. It will just depend where you are sitting and reading this. If you are in your private office with the door closed, you will probably embrace it. If you are reading this blog on the clock because you don't give a fuck if they fire you, LOL, you may cringe. You cringe because you will ask yourself the one question that we all ask at some point. How the hell did I get into this shit? Magically that anger goes away as you realize the series of decisions you made that got you here reading this blogpost. Unfortunately, you also come to the realization that it is all your fault that you are there. You then loose confidence and begin to doubt yourself. Meanwhile you scroll on Facebook and see your buddy from high school sitting on a desk in a big corner office with a view. (What you don't know is your buddy is a delivery boy and just happened to deliver to an executive who happened to be out of office. LOL #PrentendersAreEveryWhere) Instead of trying to compete with the world, just do you. It's that simple. Don't worry about what society tells you will make you happy. Chase what really makes you happy. Don't let money dictate your destiny. Sometimes you have to do it for free before they will pay you. So whatever job you would do for free everyday, just to be participating in that industry, is where you should focus your attention. Inspiration gets you "In Spirit" and when you are "In Spirit" the universe is your toolbox!
