Currently
my weekdays are dedicated to a grueling work day where I set aside at
least 40 hours to make sure another person’s vision is fulfilled
(to their standards). As the alarm rings each day I take a huge sigh
and search for purpose.... usually it ends with me getting up due to
bills, lack of money etc. Nevertheless, once the clock strikes 5:00pm
my resting b*** face (that has found a home since 8:00am) disappears
and I am a free woman! Although this illustration may give the
impression that I am miserable at work, it truly isn’t the case. I
may have my moments in which I dread going in, but overall I
understand this will be my daily routine unless I identify and
entertain my “inner beast”.
What is the
inner beast you ask? Let me explain:
Catching up
on my favorite show or watching a new movie is a frequent hobby of
mine during the weekends. This past weekend I watched a film
centered on the success of America’s favorite fast food chain, The
Founder. Most would expect
for this movie to be a feel good story about hard work, persistence
and the American Dream.... SPOILER ALERT: NAH
Long story
short The Founder
ends with the true
creators of McDonalds being bent over by the charismatic salesman
(and successful franchiser) Ray Kroc.
Mr. Kroc would later go on to
be known as the brains of McDonalds, while the originators of
McDonalds would (later) be banned from using the likeness for any
future profit. The funny thing is that Kroc did not take over the
company in a mob-style violent fashion. He simply played business as
usual by having a knack for corporate greed and capitalism.
Rather than
bore you with the details (and further spoil the film) I would
recommend that you watch this film to gain a better understanding of
the term “Dog-Eat-Dog” world. Although Kroc went on to have an
abundant amount of success he did so at the expense of others. Others
who took a chance on him and were too naïve to see the traumatic
prophesy.... until it was far too late. Others who believed that
genuine hard work pays off in the end. That you must see the good in
people no matter if the truth is staring you right in the face.
Nevertheless,
The Founder
was a hard lesson in self worth and internal evaluation. Successful
entrepreneurial stories in America tend to follow the same theme:
Kill or be killed. While I believe that Ray Kroc may have been
morally wrong for his role, I cannot blame him for going low when it
doesn’t pay to go high (sadly it's just business). Therefore until I
am ready to get low with the rest of the beasts.... I’ll continue
to have my alarm-triggered sighs in the AM while also enjoying an
occasional Big Mac.
